Join OICA for a Day of Advocacy at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Oklahoma is facing a tremendous budget shortfall and has the largest freshman class of legislators in twenty years. It is crucial that legislators hear from you to keep our children a focus as they decide where to allocate our limited dollars.
Currently, we are looking at a 15% cut in funding. This could result in 4 day school weeks, stagnant teacher pay, reduction in DHS services, and delays in processing applications for much needed food and heating assistance.
OICA is working with policy makers, state agencies, and other nonprofits to ensure that we are bettering the lives of children and families, but we need your help!
Legislators need to hear directly from their constituents about their concerns and issues they are facing. We know that going to the Capitol can be a daunting process. OICA staff will help you identify your legislator, find their office, and equip you with facts and statistics from our 2016 KIDS COUNT Data Book giving you the tools and support to communicate with them effectively.
Help us fill the Capitol with advocates for children! It doesn't matter if this is your first or 100th time talking to your legislator, we will have facts and statistics from our 2016 KIDS COUNT Data Book to help you, and tips from our CEO, former State Representative Joe Dorman. For new advocates, we will also assemble a few groups that will be led by an experienced advocate to help walk you through the process and show you just how accessible our leaders are!
OICA is holding two advocacy sessions!
Morning session from 9 - 11 a.m.
Afternoon session from 1:30 - 4 p.m.
Join us for one or both!
In addition to our Advocacy Day at the Capitol, we have an Advocacy Lunch between sessions.
Join us Will Roger's Theatre for a special lunch and speakers from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Suggested lunch donation of $50. We have reserved seating and table sponsorship opportunities available.
We are very excited to fill the Capitol for the children!
